Intranets are here
The first phase of Intranets has arrived! These are intranet-like sites where your staff can go to collaborate, find information and more. Phase one includes two new modules designed specifically for Intranets: staff directory and message board.
See a demo, or check out the About main sites, Intranets and subsites help topic for information on how Intranets differ from other OpenCities sites.
Staff directory
Create a searchable directory of staff members in your organisation, along with a profile page for each staff member.
See a demo of a staff directory or a staff profile, or check out the Staff Directory help topics for more information.
Message board
Add a message board where your staff members can communicate with each other by posting, editing, searching and commenting on messages.
See a demo of a message board or a message, or check out the Message Board help topics for more information.
Other bits and pieces
Site-specific values for content fields
Site managers can now configure different sets of values for fields used across multiple sites. For example, the Event Categories list box in your Events module can now be configured per site, so you can have a different set of options to choose from depending on whether the event page appears on your public site or your Intranet.
Better video support
A new HTML5 video player will auto-convert uploaded videos to the format that works best for visitors streaming on tablet and mobile devices.
Azure Active Directory integration
If you want your OpenCities administrators or your Intranet members to sync from Azure Active Directory, you can now do this by integrating OpenCities with your Active Directory.
Updates to the web API
Developers can now access content page and file data from the web. This can help with building targeted content import tools.
Events and news on your subsite
You can now set your events and news items to appear on your subsites, and set events and news items you create within your subsites to appear on your other sites.
Updated thumbnails
We've updated the thumbnails that appear on all content pages so they now reflect exactly what parts of the page are editable.
Changes to module names and admin labels
We like to make sure the language we use works for a global audience, so we've made some changes to some of our module names and OpenCities admin labels:
- The module My Neighbourhood is now My Area
- The module Council Meetings is now Minutes & Agenda
- The Events module label Event Organiser is now Event Host
- The admin label My Favourites is now My Bookmarks
