You may have files in your Files Library that need to be moved within the library or removed from it entirely. To achieve this, you can cut, copy, archive, or delete files. You can either do this one at a time or in bulk. If you're moving or removing many files, you will need to be in list view.
You can Cut or Copy a file to Paste it into a different folder in your Files Library. If you Cut a file, it will remove it from its current folder so you can paste it elsewhere; if you Copy a file, it will remain in its current folder and still be pasted elsewhere. The Paste button will only appear once you've Cut or Copied a file and navigated to a different folder.
You can also Archive your files, which will move them to the Archived Files folder. Files in this folder cannot be used on your site but can be restored by cutting the file(s) out of the Archived Files folder and pasting them into the Group files or Shared files folders. If you archive a file that is linked to a page, the link will break. You will need to update the link on the page.
If you want to remove a file from your Files Library, you can Delete it. Once a file has been deleted, you are unable to use it anywhere on your site. The only way to get it back is to upload it back into your Files Library. If you want to delete only the latest file versions, you need to Update it then select the Delete version button.
The process for these actions differs slightly depending on whether you're viewing your Files Library in Grid view or List view.
Grid view
- Click on an image to select it.
- Use the Cut, Copy, Archive, or Delete buttons below the images to select your action.
- If you're cutting or copying a file, navigate to the folder you want to move it to and select Paste.
List view
In list view, you can action files one at a time or in bulk.
- To action one file at a time, hover over the file in the list and click on the gear icon to open a dropdown menu.
- Select Delete, Archive, Cut, or Copy from the list.
- If you're cutting or copying a file, navigate to the folder you want to move it to and select Paste.
- If you're actioning files in bulk, select each file by checking the box to the left of the Item Name.
- Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Delete, Archive, Cut, or Copy from the Bulk Actions dropdown menu.
- If you're cutting or copying bulk files, navigate to the folder to which you want to move it and select Paste.
If you are attempting to delete a group of files and any of them are linked to a page on your site, you will get the following error: 'Unable to delete, check the Links tab for inbound links on this item.' All individual links will need to be removed before you can bulk delete files. We recommend only deleting one file at a time.
