This task can be undertaken by users with the following roles: OC Site Manager and OC System Administrator.
Dashboard Shortcuts are a quick and easy way for content authors to create and view specific content types. Shortcuts are handy for content types that only live in one place on your site, such as news articles or events.
As a site manager or system admin, you can create as many Shortcuts as you want. Users with basic permissions, such as OC Power Publisher and OC Editor, cannot customize their own dashboard; only site managers and system admins can create Shortcuts. You can also create multiple Shortcuts for the same content type if you have content types for different sections of your site, you just need to specify the correct target parent page. Your users will only see Shortcuts for content types they can create.
Check out this video to learn how to do it:
Set up your Shortcuts
Before creating a Shortcut, you need to ensure that the target parent page has been published. If, for example, you're creating a shortcut for OC News Articles, you should make sure that the news listing page has been published.
To create a new Shortcut:
- From the main menu, go to More > Site Management > your site.
- Go to the Shortcuts tab, and you will see a menu for adding a New Shortcut and a list of existing Shortcuts.
- From the Content type dropdown menu, select what kind of content you want for your Shortcut.
- In the Name field, enter the name which will appear on the shortcut. If you have multiple shortcuts for one content type, you should specify which section of the site this Shortcut is for.
- Use the Parent location field to specify which page you want new pages from this shortcut to live under. This is a predictive field, so start typing the Page name of the parent page and select it from the list.
- Select Add.
- When you're finished, select Save.
Your new Shortcut will appear under My Shortcuts on your Dashboard. When users hover over the icon, they will see the option to Create or See All. If they select Create, they will be taken to a page of that content type created under the specified parent page. If they choose to See All, they will be taken to the list of child pages under the specified parent page.
Please note that shortcuts cannot be edited, only deleted. If you need to change a shortcut, you'll need to delete it and create a new one.
