This task is for users with the following roles: OC Site Manager and OC System Administrator.
Due to continuing API changes from Facebook and X (previously Twitter), Granicus has made the decision to sunset our social media feed integrations. As a result, connecting to Facebook via More > Social Accounts or adding social feeds under More > Site Management > your site > Settings > Social media feeds is unavailable.
Instead, you can add links to your social media pages, or manually insert plugins and embed codes to your pages or via More > Embed codes. You can also configure how site visitors can share pages on their social media accounts.
Before you embed social media on OpenCities pages, please note any accessibility considerations. As they are third-party, we cannot ensure that the content or feed is fully accessible. We also recommend ensuring that you limit the height and width of your embeds to avoid creating an endless scroll.
You can embed a range of content from various social media platforms, and we often see Facebook Page Plugins and timelines from X. Both platforms provide developer tools to assist you.
To configure Facebook Page Plugins:
- Go to https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/page-plugin/ and enter the relevant Facebook Page URL.
- Choose the Width, Height, and other settings.
- Select Get Code, and copy the embed code from the IFrame tab.
- Paste this code into the HTML tab of an OpenCities page, or follow the Insert Embed Codes instructions to use the plugin tool.
To configure an X timeline:
- Go to https://publish.twitter.com/ and enter the URL of the timeline you want to embed.
- Choose from your display options and any further customizations, such as height and width.
- Select Update and Copy Code to get your code snippet.
- Paste this code into the HTML tab of an OpenCities page, or follow the Insert Embed Codes instructions to use the plugin tool.
For any assistance or troubleshooting, please visit Facebook's developer documentation or X help documentation. Please note that, as these are third-party plugins, we are unable to support any issues with your embed codes.
