Install and manage your modules

This task can be undertaken by users with the following roles: OC Site Manager and OC System Administrator.

Each page on your site uses a particular content type and module. Most of the necessary modules will already be installed on your site, but you can install others if you need to.

Some modules will not be available for certain site types, and the complete list of modules and their availability can be found in this article.

You can also check which modules are Installed, Not installed, and Not available for each of your sites by going to More > About my OpenCities. This section of the admin will tell you what modules are available to install on your sites, what version of OpenCities you're using (and when it was last updated), and how many active and inactive users are on your sites. While the table will indicate which modules are installed on your sites, it will only display the details of modules available to install, not modules that are automatically installed such as Events and General pages. You cannot install modules from About my OpenCities.

You can learn about and install modules from the Modules section of the main menu, which will list all the available modules. The View Details link for each module will give you a description, links to a related demo and help topic, and the list of sites the module has been installed on.

If you are trying to install a premium module, you will need to contact us to process payment and install it for you. The following modules are premium:

How to install a module

Please note that once you install a module, you cannot uninstall it.

  1. From the main menu, go to More > Modules.
  2. Hover your cursor over the module you want to install and select Install.

  3. Choose the site where you want to install the module from the Choose a site... dropdown menu.

  4. Select Install.

The module and associated content types will now be available on that site.
