This task can be undertaken by users with the following roles: OC Site Manager and OC System Administrator.

Through MyCity, your users can submit events, community listings, and business listings. You can manage the settings for each page type from Site Management.

  1. From the main menu, go to More > Site Management > your MyCity site > Settings.
  2. For the event settings, select Event.

For community directory settings, go to Local Directory > OC Directory; for business directory settings, go to Local Directory > OC Business.

  3. Change your settings.
  4. Select Save Settings and Save.

Settings for events, community directory, and business directory

The settings for each page type are almost exactly the same, with minor changes in how you edit them. Below, we'll review the settings for all of them and specify when the method changes.

Location to create new pages in MyCity

Enter the URL of the folder in which you will hold user-submitted pages of the specific page type.

This is a predictive text field, so start typing in the name of the page and select the correct one from the list.

Location of the submit form page

Enter the URL of the page through which your users can submit pages of the specific page type.

This is a predictive text field, so start typing in the name of the page and select the correct one from the list.

Location of the submission success page

Enter the URL of the confirmation page users will see once they have submitted a page of the specific page type.

This is a predictive text field, so start typing in the name of the page and select the correct one from the list.

Send review notification in days

Indicate the number of days after which a user should be reminded to review their page.

We recommend setting your review notifications to go out every 365 days, however, you may want to change this to six months.

Categories

Add or remove categories that users can select as they submit pages. You can also drag and drop them to change their order in the list. The way you edit these differs according to the page type:

Events: to add a new Event category, enter it into the Enter new category field and select Add. To remove a category, hover over and use the cogwheel dropdown menu to select Delete.

Community and business directory: the categories for community and business directories are shown in a tree, and you can also add sub-categories. To add a new one on the top level, right-click on Start and select New Item. To add a sub-category, right-click on the parent category and select New Item. You can drag and drop one to change its position in the tree or double-click it to change its name. We recommend adding a maximum of 40 categories and sub-categories. More than this can result in performance issues in your Site Management admin, and difficulty for mobile visitors using the category filter.

Note: your MyCity categories need to be exactly the same as those in the site you're mapping to, including being case- and character-sensitive.

The Events module will come preloaded with default categories, but you will need to add your own to the Local Directory module. If need some ideas, check out our list of Community and Business categories.

Publish to

Select the page on your main or subsite where you want to Publish user-submitted MyCity pages. For events, you can select more than one site to publish to, as you may want user-submitted events in your main site and a subsite.

Use the Site dropdown menu to indicate which site you want them on, the Under the page predictive field to find the parent page you want events published under, and the Using template dropdown menu to select a default template to use for MyCity events.
