Intranets use the Site Search module to power the internal search function, just like your main site and any subsites. However, Intranets differ because they can use the combined search template, which will return individual results for staff and content pages.

combined predictive search results on an Intranet

When you search for a keyword, any matching results will appear under two columns in your predictive search results. There will also be a "view more" link to the combined search results page, which will divide your results into separate categories. You can then select "view more" again to go to the staff directory or content search results page to further filter by keyword.

Create search results pages

We'll also make the two necessary search results pages when creating your Intranet. If you need to recreate them, use the following content types and templates:

Page Content type Template
Combined search results OC Module Interface OC Combined Search Results
Content search results OC Module Interface OC Content Search Results

You may want to recreate these pages within an OC Folder named Search or something similar. Remember to add your new pages to your Site Management settings to be correctly linked to your site search.

Most Intranets will have many files with similar keywords, and these files are likely to crowd search results on Intranets. As a result, we prioritize content pages over files in site search results. We recommend adding files to pages to make them easily searchable and provide context to the purpose of the file. Additionally, if you do not have a staff directory populated with staff profiles, there will be no results in your staff search.

Select which content types are included in predictive search

Use this field to select what content types your predictive search results will return. Check the box next to each content type you want to include.

Selecting differing content types for this setting can prevent your predictive search results from getting too cluttered. We recommend including content types often searched for, such as OC Landing Pages, OC Module Interface, OC General, or other content types you know people search for.

Title and order of search results types Use these fields to rename or reorder the different categories in your combined search results.
